Pee Wee Russell - Re-visited by McN
I was just listening to Radio OKOM (www.okom.com) and it was me, playing a recording of "Ballin' the Jack." I wasn't sure exactly what band it was, or who the players were.
As I listened, I perked up when I heard what seemed to be a Pee Wee Russell solo. And a marvelous solo it was.. I truly liked it. No, I loved it!
But wait! It Wasn't Pee Wee. The band was the Barons of Dixieland, from an LP with no info on the players. We have many such recordings in the OKOM library. Some are not so good, others, such as this one, are surprisingly good.
The more I think about it, maybe it was Pee Wee on this one. As I've posted before, I was once exposed to a recording of a tenor sax man, whom I really loved - only to find that it was Pee Wee, in his early years.
What I'm saying here, is that my friends, Trevor Rippingale, and Steve Barbone, may be on to something. No, I didn't say "on" something.
