Steve,
Touché! Yerright. Herb not only sings well on his own, but is also marvelous as part of Smith Street's vocal trio (with me and my wife Lynne).
Herb and Lynne know my phrasing and they're right there with me, all the way. I've got the easy part (lead). Lynne is a natural, at picking out nice harmonies. Herb does the seeming impossible by selecting just the right 3rd part, to fit in perfectly.

The guy is a primo all-around musician. His formal training, his love of our music, and his extensive experience has resulted in a guy who can blow most anybody off most any bandstand. He can take a complicated chart and sight-read it with apparent ease.
Beyond that, he is a talented composer/arranger with dozens of tunes to his credit.
