Well Fred, you just kicked me in the stomach......
I was a very close friend of Charlie......I know we end up going onward and
hopefully upward in this life but this reminder is so sad!
If you see his son, let him know I'm praying for him?
My best regards to the band.........
Warmest,
Paul

"In the first place, we should insist that if the immigrant who comes here
in good faith becomes an American and assimilates himself to us, he sha ll
be treated on an exact equality with everyone else, for it is an outrage to
discriminate against any such man because of creed, or birthplace, or
origin.. But this is predicated upon the person's becoming in every facet an
American, and nothing but an American...There can be no divided allegiance
here. Any man who says he is an American, but something else also, isn't an
American at all. We have room for but one flag, the American flag... We have
room for but one language here, and that is the English language... and we
have room for but one sole loyalty and that is a loyalty to the American
people."

Hi GJB Fans,
A Sad Note:
Our old friend Charlie Stevens, a wonderful bass player, and a great guy
too,
passed away peacefully on Wed Nov 14th. Funeral arrangements were private,
but you can go to www.laportacookfuneralhome.com for details regarding what
you can do in Charlie's memory.
A CD RELEASE PARTY NEXT WEEK! OUR FIRST! And, it's our last public
performance for 2007! Don't miss it! I Just spoke with the owner's, and
we're
nearly sold out!
It's Thursday, November 29th, 6:30-9PM at the Beachhead, 3 Cosey Beach Ave
East Haven. We're very excited about this because this latest Galvanized
Jazz
Band CD is absolutely fabulous. We're talking about the Howard Alden-Dirck
Spicer-Noel Kaletsky GJB session on Jan 1, 1984 at the Millpond Tavern,
Northford CT., where we performed weekly from 1971-2005! It's called
'AIRMAIL
SPECIAL', and boy is it special. I get goose bumps when I listen to it!
The
energy level is incredible. We'll try to re create that feeling at the CD
Release Party, playing all of the tunes from that session, so call for
reservations
now, 203-469-5450. I can tell you that seating will be limited so you can
be
assured of good service; we also need room for the 7-piece band! The
Beachhead is very aware that some of you didn't get the service you deserved
at our
last Sunday performance, and they're going to do whatever is necessary to
correct that. One more thing, this CD will be available at the CD Release
Party,
but not before, so if you order prior to that, it will be mailed to you
after
the CD Release Party, if there are any left! By the way, you may want to
make your reservation earlier than 6:30 to avoid any possible delays. See
you
there!
Fred's Back From France
Yes, I just got back last night. I played two gigs with JP Alessi's French
Preservation New Orleans Jazz Band, in Lyon, France. The Friday gig was a
dance club function with 150 dancers. We played from 10PM to 3AM, and they
were still dancing (to house music) when I left! On Saturday we played to
700
dancers. The first band, a Boogie Woogie Band, played from 9 to 11:30.
We
played from 11:45 to 3AM. I told them that Connecticut is asleep by 10PM,
and
they all laughed. Each dancer paid 25 euros to get in. That's about $33!
No food and a cash bar! What's amazing is that these French fans know all
of
the tunes, from Eh Las Bas to Kid Thomas Boogie Woogie to Bugle Boy March,
and they jitterbug all night to them. It was a great 5 days!
Congratulations to our friend, Les Paul.
President Bush presented the 2007 National Medal of Arts to Les Paul for his
"
innovation as a musician, his pioneering designs of the electric guitar, and
his groundbreaking recording techniques that have influenced the development
of American jazz, blues, and pop music, and inspired generations of
guitarists."
How many of you remember the great session we had with Les Paul as our
guest at the Millpond one very special Sunday in 1986, our 15th anniversary?
Bill Logozzo's Heartbeat Jazz Band will be at Olivers in Essex on Thursday,
Dec 6th, 7-10PM, with Skip Hughes ! This is a great spot, nice casual
atmosphere, and good food at a reasonable price. Of course the music is
hot hot hot!
Dancing too! Look for them at Olivers usually on the first Thursday of
each month. They'll also be doing a Jazz Service at the East Hampton
Congregational Church on Sunday morning, Jan 13th. Contact Bill Logozzo at
Bill
@nutmegchrome.com for information on the band and how to order CDs.
SUNDAYS at Marisa's in Trumbull!
We'll be back on Sunday, Jan 20th, 6-8:30! Remember, there is no cover or
minimum at Marisa's, but because the food is fabulous, you're going to want
to
order dinner. There's dancing too! Marisa's is very easy to get to: take
the
Merritt Parkway toward Trumbull, get off at Exit 48, head north for about 3
miles, and it's on your right. This is a good size restaurant, with plenty
of
seating and parking, and a nice dance floor too. Marisa's address is 6540
Main Street, Trumbull, CT 06611. The telephone number is 203-459-4225.
Galvanized Jazz Band Coming to Hamden
On Sunday, Jan 27th, 2-3:30PM, we'll be in concert at the Thornton Wilder
Auditorium at the Miller Cultural Complex, 2901 Dixwell Avenue, Hamden, as
part
of the town's concert series. Call 203-287-2546 for details. Our special
guests for this performance will be Jim Fryer and Joel Schiavone.
Galvanized Jazz Band Coming to Westport
On Sunday, Feb 10th, 2-3:30pm, we'll be in concert at the Westport Senior
Center, 21 Imperial Ave., Westport, with guest trombonist Skip Hughes.
Call
203-226-7600 for details.
The Great Connecticut Traditional Jazz Festival
It's all set for July 25, 26 and 27, at the Sunrise Resort in Moodus! I
don't have all the details yet, but I heard rumors that it's going to be the
best
Fest yet! Names like Jeff Barnhart Allstars, Cornet Chop Suey, Igor's Jazz
Cowboys, Blue Street, Midiri Brothers, Galvanized Jazz Band with Jane
Campedelli and JP Alessi (sax player and leader of French Preservation New
Orleans
Jazz Band!), and more, much more! Call 1-800-HOTEVENT for a brochure, or to
buy
your tickets in advance. It really helps. Why not buy tickets for some
lucky person for Christmas?
The Hot Steamed Jazz Festival is set for 2008! Mark your calendars for June
27, 28 and 29. We'll be there along with a host of other talented musicians
for
another great weekend of traditional jazz. For more information about the
festival and to order tickets, log on to www.hotsteamedjazz.com. If you
would
like to receive updates directly from The Hot Steamed Jazz Festival, send an
email to info at hotsteamedjazz.com and ask to be added to their email
distribution
list. From the Director: "The holiday season is almost upon us and festival
tickets make great holiday gifts. Order soon to ensure you receive tickets
in
time to put under the tree or in the stockings!"
News from Jim Fryer
Dear Friend:
Just wanted to let you know that on SATURDAY NOVEMBER 24, I will be
returning
to the Silvermine Tavern in Norwalk CT, with another round of JIM FRYER AND
THE USUAL SUSPECTS. Suspects Christian Sands (piano) and Jesse Hameen
(drums)
will join me, along with a mystery bass player! Leave your Thanksgiving
leftovers at home, come out have a swell meal and enjoy good music at the
Silvermine, Connecticut's premier jazz venue. We play music from 8 -
10:30pm. Visit
their website www.silverminetavern.com, or call 203-847-4558. Speaking of
websites, I now actually have one up and running: www.jfryer.com. Doing a
"websites
for morons" class through Apple Computers has allowed me to get a toehold on
the 21st century! I will try to keep my performance schedule updated and my
photos snappy. I hope that you are well, and thanks for your support for
live
music. Regards, Jim
