Recently, I made a posting, indicating my impressions of Fred Vigorito, as one of the hottest players around. It has come to my attention that I may have sliightest the likes of Randy Reinhart and Jon-Erik Kellso.
I must say that my mention of those last two players, was prompted only by my extreme admiration of the two. At no time did I mean to slight them. Randy and Jon are by far, the stars of present-day traditional jazz.
I've had the pleasure of listening to, and performing with, each of them. It's hard to admit, but those two are the young guys, in "our" music.
Randy R. (I say that to distinguish him from Randy Sandke, another of the greats in music), is clearly at the top of the music scene these days.
Jon- Erik Kellso first came to my attention when he came into town (NYC) to perform with Vince Giordano's Nighthawks (how Vinnie digs up these gems, I'll never know). It was then that we booked Jon on as many gigs as we could.
Please know that Jon has been appearing every Sunday evening, at a wonderful, yet little known, place called The Ear Inn.

Jon is there each Sunday evening. Recently, Lynne and I dropped in. We enjoyed burgers and really dug the funky scene. That night, Jon (cornet) had with him, the wonderful Matt Munisteri (guitar), Joel Forbes (string bass man extrorinaire) and Mark Shane (the best piano man around).
We not only had a ball, but we parked on the street, right outside the place.
The Ear Inn, attracts the best people. We encountered the fine guitar man, Chris Flory, ace trombonise, Harvey Tibbs, and our buddy, Jim Fryer (trombone, cornet, euphonium) who introduced us to the trombone lady from Mighty Aphgrodite, the wonderful band from Canada that's knockin' 'em dead on the festival circuit. These and many more, sit in regularly at that very special gig.
Again, my apologies if I deigned to imply that I was rating one player against the other. The botoom line is, all of those that I mentioned, are clearly NUMBER ONE.
